Highlights use foil to process sections uniformly for a bolder, more consistent lightness, while balayage is hand-painted freehand for a softer, more natural gradient that grows out with far less fuss. Turning up to a highlights appointment expecting balayage, or vice versa, is how a colourist ends up doing gentle diplomatic damage control before they’ve even picked up a brush.<\/span><\/p>\n
